This is my first attempt at blogging from my phone. We’ll see how it works! Today’s post is another NOTD. Still festive, but a little bit more subtle than the last two. I am in love with these colours though!
The main colour is Merry Berry from China Glaze. It is a beautiful rich berry red creme. I can see wearing this colour all through the season! (if I wasn’t so fickle with my nail polish). The accent nail is Champagne Kisses, also by China Glaze. With this colour I think I have found my perfect glitter! It is a beautiful champagne gold colour. Not overly gold and cool toned, it really works like a neutral. It suits my skintone perfectly and is stunning with the red!

Different design with the same colours
When it started to chip badly (I’m on holiday and didn’t bring base/top coat with me, just the two colours for touch-ups) I took it all off and started from scratch. This is what I came up with! I used Merry Berry (2 coats) as a base on all of my nails. Once it was fully dried I used scotch tape cut into points to make an outline of the shape that I wanted to stay red. I then painted on a thick layer of Champagne Kisses and removed the tape while it was still wet. That’s how I got the triangle shapes!
What do you think? Are these colours you would wear? Do you like more subtle holiday looks like this one? Or do you prefer to rock nails like this or this during the holiday season?
(I did everything but add the photo from my phone, that part wouldn’t cooperate)

Here is my promised post on my favourite Holiday polishes for 2012! When it gets into December I like to start wearing nail polish that puts me in the holiday mood =). That usually includes rich reds, glittery golds, and gorgeous greens. This year I even tossed in a beautiful blue! (Yay alliteration =D). So this post will cover my favourite Christmasy nail polishes, as well as my favourite New Years polishes. Enjoy!
The Colour Wheel
The Reds!
Orly – Bus Stop Crimson China Glaze – Ruby Pumps
Bus Stop Crimson is a beautiful deep true red colour. I don’t tend to wear reds of this shade on my hands ever, but it lives on my toes through the fall and winter! To make it feel a bit more festive I like to top it off with a coat of Ruby Pumps to make my toes all glittery =)
China Glaze – Ruby Pumps
Ruby Pumps is a beautiful red glitter suspended in a slightly red base. The glitter is very dense, and if you are using it over another polish, one coat is plenty!
China Glaze – Phat Santa
Phat Santa is my perfect red creme polish for Christmas. It reminds me of the colour of holly berries! Nothing is more festive than a good red nail =)
The Metallics and Top Coats
Sally Hansen – Disco Ball
I used Disco Ball to make the snow in my Blue Christmas nail look here. It is a beautiful fine holographic glitter suspended in a clear base. Great to give any look a hint of “bling”!
Essie – As Gold As It Gets
As Gold As It Gets is one of my favourite top coats for this season. It is an extremely fine gold flake top coat. Just one coat of this adds a subtle gold sheen to any polish colour.
Orly – Luxe
Luxe is a bit of a shape shifter for me. On first glance it is a beautiful shimmety metallic gold polish, but upon closer inspection there is some silver in there too! It is almost a mixed-metal type polish. It looks mostly gold on the nail, but when the light hits it it can reflect that beautiful silver. Nothing is more festive than silver and gold! (yes yes I know I contradict myself…)
The Greens and Blues
China Glaze – Winter Holly Butter London – British Racing Green
Winter Holly is a really nice green glitter with flecks of gold in a clear base, I love to layer it over British Racing Green! BRG is a beautiful hunter green creme polish that also featured in my favourite fall/winter polishes =)
Essie – Aruba Blue
Aruba Blue is such a gorgeous colour. I lusted after it for almost a year before finally getting it a few weeks ago. I’ve used this already for a holiday look, and it is the perfect winter blue! A deep blue shimmer that looks like the sea =)
Orly – Disco Ball Essie – Aruba Blue
This is the combination I used to make the snow in this nail look!
The Greys/Blacks
The Greys/Blacks
This is 4 coats of the the grey glitter, and then two coats of black topped with one coat each of Winter Holly, Snow Globe, and As Gold As It Gets.
China Glaze – Some Like It Haute
Some Like It Haute is an amazing polish that I bought about this time last year. It is a medium-dark grey base with holographic glitter PACKED into it! It goes on really gritty, so a good thick top coat is a must, but the finished look is so worth it! One thing I will say: if you are going to hang on to this polish, make sure you have a thinner because it does dry out as it’s so thick!
Be sure to check out the video for live-views of the polishes!
What are you favourite holiday polishes? Do you tend to wear festive nails? Or do you just wear whatever you want to?
