Open With Me: June Glam Bag!

Hey Beauties!

I’m on time with this one! =O.  Shock and awe… [She says when she writes the post in June, but then doesn’t post it until September… =S]  I filmed the video for this the day that it showed up on my doorstep =).

It is edited and ready to go up as soon as I finish this blog post!

So let’s get right into it.  Here are the goodies that came in my June Glam Bag:

Such a cute bag!  Leopard print with a neon yellow zipper (and inside!).  They changed the location of the zipper this time, which I kind of like. It makes it seem more like a functional bag =)  The theme is “On The Wild Side”, and the card is really pretty.

And here are all of the items inside.  I’m pretty sure that all 5 items are full sized this month!  Amazing! =D

First up is an item that I have wanted for ages.  This is NYX’s cream blush in “Boho Chic”.  It is a very creamy formula that glides on smoothly.  It is a bit shiny, but putting a setting powder or a powder blush overtop would fix that problem and make it last.  This is full size and retails for $6.  The discount for NYX is up to 40% off!

Here you can see the swatches.  Top is a solid swatch with just one stroke, and below is a blended out swatch.  You can see that it is a really beautiful blush colour that blends out to a natural glow.  It isn’t the most pigmented blush, but I could see myself using this and then topping it with Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush in “Warm”, which is my favourite powder blush for a really natural look.

Next up is an item from a brand that I have never heard of before called StarLooks.  This is a lip liner in the colour “Tickle Me Pink”.  When I swatched it the formula felt amazing.  It just glided right onto my skin, soft as could be.  I didn’t really test the staying power though, but it blends nicely and seems to set fairly quickly.

The colour is perfect as far as I’m concerned!  A soft pink that I think will go well with any lipstick or lipgloss and look natural but gorgeous.  This is full size (2.4g) and retails for $12.  The discount code provides 35% off any order from their website.

This is a brow highlight pencil from Chella in the colour “Ivory Lace”.  It is a fairly good size, but I am not sure if it is full size.  It seems to be almost like a light concealer pencil, meaning there is no shimmer in the formula.  It is meant to highlight simply by lightening the colour under the brow or the inner corners of the eyes, making it a very natural looking product!

The pencil is very creamy, and would not tug at all when using it on the eyes.  It blends out nicely and gives just a subtle highlight.  This is the lightest of the three colours available, and it retails for $18.  The discount for Chella is 20% off.

Now this is a product that I am really excited for!  I have never in my life worn any type of false lashes.  I bought some singles to use at my wedding, but never had time to practice with them, so I never wound up using them.  These are cruelty free lashes that came with a little tube of glue.  They are definitely plastic, but they still feel really soft.  I will have a review up for you when I try them out!  Maybe for a wedding that I am attending this summer =).  I have never heard of the brand Beauty before.  These retail for $3.99 a set.

Lastly, this is another product from Beauty.  This is the Sparkling Cream Palette in the colour “Volta”.  I figured this must be like the NYX cream glitter palettes, which I have always admired from afar, but never purchased because I don’t wear glitter that often.  I was assuming that these colours would be a creamy base and the glitter would be suspended in it, making it easy to use as an eyeshadow or eyeliner.  However, when I swatched the products they proved to be more of a loose glitter that is just held in the palette by the cream.  Below you can see the swatches.

I would use this more like my loose glitter from Lit, using some sort of glitter base or glue and then packing this on top.  I think it will also work over a cream liner.  The fallout seems to be crazy, as it typical with glitter, so be careful!  These retail for $4.49 and are available in 8 colours.  It seems like all of the products are cruelty free, lead free and hypoallergenic, which is great!

Here’s everything I could swatch from the bag!  Top –> Bottom: Lip Liner, Glitter, Highlighter, Blush.

Did you get the Ipsy Glam Bag this month?  What did you get in your bag??

NOTD: Spring Bling – Coral and Glitter

Hey Beauties,

I just wound up taking this off of my nails today, but I really loved it!

The main colour is Essie’s “Tart Deco”, and the two accent nails are Essie’s “Beyond Cozy”.

I used Tart Deco in my Trendy Tips mani, which you can check out here.  This is the first time I have worn it on my full nails, and it is also the first time I have worn Beyond Cozy.  I love both colours!  Tart Deco is a very bright coral, one that would really make a statement worn against a nice tanned complexion in the height of summer.

Beyond Cozy is a colour that everyone was after for the Christmas season, and I can see why!  It is a stunning silver glitter that goes on so smoothly.  It takes about 5 coats to be fully opaque on its own, and I am not looking forward to taking this baby off…  It is a cooler toned polish, which doesn’t always work heading into the warmer weather, but I think it complimented the coral beautifully.

Do you stick with pastels for spring?  Do you like to mix colour tones?

First Impressions: Caruso Steam Molecular Hair Setter

Hi Beauties,

I think this is my first “first-impressions” post!  I have very fine hair, but quite a bit of it, and it just will NOT hold a curl!  I have tried curling irons, curling wants, straighteners, heat activated curling sprays, you name it.  Nothing works.  I might get nice curls that look beautiful but they are gone in about 20 minutes. It is so frustrating =(.  I have had fine, stick straight hair all of my life, and it wouldn’t be so bad if I could even just get a little bit of volume in there, but that just won’t happen!

I finally decided to try hot rollers.  They seem like they would be so much easier to use compared to a curling iron, and hopefully take less than 45 minutes!  After extensive research (googling) and reading blogs and user reviews it seemed like this Caruso system was the best way to go for me.  The idea is that you have rollers encased with sponge that absorbs steam and uses the heat and moisture to set your hair in 15 minutes.

The whole shebang

The promise: “The Caruso Professional Molecular Hairsetter was invented to finally give women the results that they longed for – long lasting curls and volume while keeping hair healthy, shiny and in great condition. The Caruso Professional Molecular system is a revelatory process, tiny molecules of steam penetrate the hair shaft reforming the chain bonds to create healthy, strong beautiful curls. This hairsetter has been customized give you the styling power to accommodate any and all of today’s most popular hair styles. The compact size also makes it ideal for home use.”  They also claim that the curls “Will last for days”!

The rollers come in 5 sizes: Petite, Small, Medium, Large, Jumbo (not shown)

Top: Large
Bottom: Jumbo

Of course all of this got me very excited, and many of the bloggers and users called this the best hot rollers for my hair type, because it is supposed to really set your hair in a way that dry heat can’t.  I ordered it from Amazon, and finally got the time tonight to try it out the other night.  Here are the photos:

As you can see, NOTHING HAPPENED!!  GAH.  I can’t even express how disappointed I am at these results.  I was really hoping for anything, a bit of curl, waves, body, anything!  Nothing…  I followed the instructions to a tee, and something obviously didn’t work.  I don’t know if I didn’t get them hot enough?  I saw a lot of reviews saying that they don’t work if you leave them on the steam too long and they get saturated, but I left them on a little bit longer than the 5 seconds they recommended for my hair type.  I know this is my first try and I will be playing around with this more to see if I can’t get some results.  I am going to try steaming the clip as well next time, and maybe leaving them on the steamer a bit longer and rolling my hair more tightly around the sponge.

If I find a way that makes this work for me I will be sure to let you know, so stay tuned!

Fellow fine-haired ladies out there, what works for you to get curls that last all night??
