Open With Me: November Birchbox!

Hey Beauties!

So Today I am going to show you what was in my November Birchbox!

Just a quick overview of each of the products and a mini review if I’ve tried them already.  Hope you enjoy!!

Yay Birchbox!

Yay Birchbox!

The Goodies!

The Goodies!

So the first thing that you see when you open the package are the papers that describe what is in your box!  This is what came in this month’s box.

The Birchbox 2012 Holiday Gift Guide

November’s Theme was “To Give”

$15 off at CHROMATICgallerie

So as you can see, the theme of the box was giving (as it was in the month of Thanksgiving!).  They also included a coupon core for $15 off your purchase at CHROMATICgallerie to buy some shoes.  The great thing is it doesn’t expire at the end of November, which is typical for offers in these types of boxes.  The code is actually good through December 31!  Finally, they included their 2012 Holiday gift guide to give you ideas of what is available in the Birchbox shop for anyone on your list =)

Model co. Fibre LashXtend Extreme Black Lengthening Mascara

Model co. Fibre LashXtend Extreme Black Lengthening Mascara

Model co. Fibre LashXtend Extreme Black Lengthening Mascara

First up is the Model co Fibre LashXtend Extreme Black Lengthening Mascara.  This is a full size sample that retails for $24!  BAM!  You’ve already gotten more than twice what you paid for the box =)  This is described as “Falsies without the fuss.  This innovative mascara uses tiny lash-extending fibers to give you a lenghty fringe”.  While I haven’t used this product yet, I am really excited about it!  The wand is MASSIVE.  I haven’t really used a mascara with this type of brush much lately, aside from my little Smashbox sample.  I tend to go for the rubbery wands with the spikes because I like my lashes to be really defined.  However, I am going to try this out for sure for a holiday party!  And it has a mirror on the packaging, how amazing is that!

Caldrea handsoaps in Mandarin Vetiver and Crimson Pear Ginger

Next is two Caldrea hand soaps in delicious holiday fragrances: Mandarin Vetiver and Crimson Pear Ginger, yum!  The description reads: “We didn’t know it was possible to go gaga for handsoap until we met Caldrea’s lushly scented blends, including their limited edition holiday scents”.  The Crimson Pear Ginger is limited edition, the Mandarin Vetiver is not, and full size (10.8oz) retails for $10.50.

Stella Cadente eau de parfum sample in Miss Me

The third product I pulled out was this eau de parfum sample from Stella Cadente called “Miss Me”.   It is described as “This French scent transitions from a blend of exotic blossoms to a subtle powdery finish”.  I definitely get the powdery smell, but I don’t find it all that subtle.  This to me smells like something my Grandma would wear.  Sorry, but this was a total miss…  The sample is 1.2mL (0.04 fl oz), which they say is going to be about 5 uses.  Full size is 15mL for $35 or 30mL for $69.

Feeling Smitten limited edition holiday bath bomb: Ribbon Candy Cupcake

This is something I am excited about because it is SO cute!  But I never take baths, so it will probably go unused for a very long time =(.  It is a Ribbon Candy Cupcake bath bomb from Feeling Smitten.  How adorable is that!  It is a little cupcake with frosting and sprinkles and everything =). It’s pretty convincing too.  They have a special warning on the back “Do Not Eat”, just in case someone is tempted ;).  It smells delicious, kind of like vanilla and sweet candy mixed together.  It has almond and coconut oil in it to moisturize your skin, and is handmade in the USA without sulfates or parabens.  Pretty awesome!  Full size sells for $10.50 (I have no way how to tell if this is full size or not, but I would assume so).

Oscar Blandi Pronto Texture & Volume Spray

The final “product” in this month’s box was Oscar Blandi Pronto Texture & Volume Spray.  “This light, non-sticky spray gives dry hair a voluminous, sexy, tousled look.  Spray from ends to roots for best results.  It’s great to updos, too!”  I have tried this product, and wasn’t overly impressed.  It smelled really weird, which I didn’t like.  I did find that it gave my hair some texture and volume right at the ends, but that’s it.  And as per usual with my hair, it only lasted about 10 minutes…  However I recently got my hair cut (about 3″ off), so perhaps it will work better without so much weighing my hair down.  I am going to take this with me on our Christmas vacation, so I will try it out again.  This sample is 28.3g (1 oz) the perfect size for travelling!  Travel size is 1.5oz for $11 and Full size is 4oz and retails for $25.

Cranberry Soy Joy

Lastly, they included a “Lifestyle Extra” which was a Cranberry Soy Joy bar.  It’s great that they’re gluten free!  I’m going to eat this on the go on our trip I’m sure.  They retail for $6 for a box of 5.

I hope you enjoyed this overview of the November Birchbox!  The total value of this box is $43.95 (I estimated the soaps to be worth $1 each) and you only pay $10!  Just the bath bomb or the mascara on their own make this box worth the money.  You can check out birchbox here!

Right now, they are having free shipping on any $25 order from their shop, and recommend ordering by 12pm (noon) December 19th to ensure delivery by Christmas.  Are you short on ideas and need something to give your girlfriend, cousin, sister or anyone in your life (they also have a guys version)?  You can gift a subscription to someone for 3, 6, or 12 months!  This is a great gift for anyone interested in beauty and trying out new products.  Every month is a great value too!

October’s theme was “Transformations”

The Goodies!

Lucy B Perfume Oils in Pink Frangipani and Wild Jasmine

I really like the way they have packaged these samples.  Unlike most small perfume vials that you have to upend over your wrist and risk spilling, these came with a little applicator attached to the lid.  So you take the lid off and just dot some of the oil onto your wrist, perfect!  Pink Frangipani smells like a floral, but in a very understated way.  There is almost some sweetness to the scent, but it is still rich, I actually quite like it!  Wild Jasmine I find to be a little bit lighter and a bit fruitier.  No idea if I’m anywhere close to right!  Let’s find out: Pink Frangipani – notes of pineapple, heliotrope & coconut milk. I think the coconut is the richness that I smelled!  Wild Jasmine – notes of waterlilly, white ginger & magnolia.  So based on that I don’t know why I found this to be a sweeter scent…  Unfortunately the little vials don’t have a label, so I have already mixed them up!  lol.  They are fairly similar in scent, described as “Boost your mood with these uplifting indigenous Australian flower essences.  Try separately or blend together for a wildly tropical bouquet”.  I can definitely see these working well together.  Both are infused with natural Australian flower essences “to enhance your mood”.  I haven’t worn these yet, so I can’t vouch for that!  I’m not sure the size of the samples, but the full size duo of roll-ons (10mL each) retails for $48.

Kusmi Tea: Euphoria (Roasted mate, chocolate and orange) and Detox (mate, green tea and lemon grass)

This month’s “Lifestyle Extra” is a pair of teas from Kusmi Tea Paris.  Euphoria (mate, chocolate and orange) – holy yum!! and Detox (mate, lemon grass and green tea).  I haven’t used these yet, but they sound great!  I am totally a delayed gratification girl, and tend to save things like this, even though it’s silly!  They are from the new “Wellness Essentials” line and retail for $23.95 for a box of 24 tea bags (a mixture of 6 varieties).

The Balm: Mary-Lou Manizer

The Balm: Mary-Lou Manizer

Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm is a three-in-one highlighter, shadow and all-over shimmer.  It is a beautiful warm champagne/gold colour with a velvety soft texture and a gorgeous sheen.  This would be perfect just lightly dusted on the cheekbones and cupid’s bow.  I have swatched it, but I have yet to actually wear it.  I think this will look better on me in the summer when I have some colour.  The packaging is sturdy cardboard and adorable, as is to be expected from The Balm!  The sample contains 1g of product, which is a pretty decent amount!  Full size is $24 for 8.5g.

Lulu Organics Lavender + Clary Sage Hair Powder

This product is an organic dry shampoo (containing NO talc) “for hair on days of unwash”.  “Laced with organic lavender and sage, this sweet-smelling dry shampoo revives flat or second-day hair”.  This is the perfect size little pouch to take travelling!  I might just take this with me to my in-laws for Christmas and give it a try =).  This sample is 5g, full size is 4oz (helpful, I know) and retails for $30.

Miracle Skin Transformer SPF 20 Face

This product claims to be an all-in-one  primer, serum, and “face tint” to replace your foundation to give skin a “flawless finish”  I have yet to use this, but I’m not sure how I feel about it.  I find that most products that claim to do everything tend to come up short in at least one area.  I will have to try it and let you know how I find it.  It is also in shade “medium”, which I’m sure will be too dark for me this time of year.  It does come in 7 shades, which is great!  It has some pretty hefty claims as well.  “In one applucation 100% of users instantly saw a brighter, healthier and younger looking complexion, less noticeable pores, diminished look of fine lines and wrinkles, minimized appearance of discolourations, dullness, blotchiness and dryness.”  If it actually does half of this, it really will be a miracle!  Each sample pouch is 0.02 fl oz (0.6mL), full size is 1.7 fl oz and retails for $48.

Twistband Hair Tie

Finally, there was this strange little elastic at the bottom of my box.  This is a “Twistband” hair tie.  “Give your ponytail a makeover with these colourful, snag-free elastics.  Plus they look as good on our wrists as they do in our ponytails”.  Well I don’t know about you, but I don’t think this looks too great on my wrist…  It would be fine if it was just an elastic, but the knot and the tails looks funny.  I haven’t quite figured what the hype is all about for these.  I  have used it a couple of times, and find that it really doesn’t hold my hair up at all, it just slides out!  Frustrating…  The one benefit that I have discovered is that they don’t leave any creases in your hair when you take it out (maybe because it doesn’t hold tight enough?)  A set of 6-12 retails for $10-18.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month?

Let me know if you’ve used any of these products and would recommend purchasing the full-size =)
