Hey Beauties!

Sorry I disappeared for a while, my parents and my sister came to town!  We had such a great visit, one week flew by just way too fast! We did get to see so many things though, including a few things that I hadn’t seen before.

We went to Washington DC and got to see all of the monuments at night.  How breathtaking!   I had seen them in the daylight before, but when they were all lit up, it was just so beautiful.  Unfortunately they are still restoring the Washington Monument, so there was scaffolding about 3/4 of the way up, which takes away from the beauty of the view down the mall.  We also went into the Newseum, which I think is fairly new?  That was amazing, since my husband is a photojournalist, but it is fascinating for anyone who is interested in current (or not so current) events!  They have a gallery full of Pulitzer Prize winners, some of which are stunningly beautiful, and some of which will rip your heart out.  They also have an updated digital screen with over 100 papers from around the world displaying their front pages.  They have an exhibit on the FBI, JFK, and even the First Dogs, all about how the media covered the various aspects.  We thought it would be a quick buzz through, but we were there for almost 3 hours, right up until it closed.  It was a busy 2 days filled with walking!  We were all exhausted by the end of it.

We also wandered around Wilmington on Market Street and the riverfront.  We went to Harry’s Seafood Grille for my birthday dinner.  O. M. G.  The food and the service was amazing!!  If you are ever in town make sure you check them out.  They have a two course lunch for $15 too!  We will be checking that out for sure.  They were also fabulous about accommodating my family’s crazy dietary issues.  My sister is celiac, my mom tries to avoid gluten and dairy, and I am allergic to dairy.  They had a whole separate gluten free menu even.  Also, Loma Coffee on Market street is delicious =).

We had an appointment in Philadelphia to get me my Green Card, and so we checked out a few things while we were there.  We saw Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, and also walked around a neat market right downtown.  It had the cutest wine store, and a stall with so many different kinds of goat’s and sheep’s milk cheeses, heaven!  We bought a honey goat gouda, I don’t think I have ever tasted anything so delicious in my life.

We decided to skip out on Baltimore in favour of having a night in to play Catan.   If you have never played it: Settlers of Catan is a MUST!  Such a great game that is fun and competitive and involves luck and strategy and trades and it just amazing.  It’s different every time too because the board changes!

Since they left ( =(! ) I have been busy working and cleaning our apartment.  I am starting some new training at my job, and also coaching a soccer team and getting involved in volunteering with the SPCA and the Junior Board of Christiana Care.  I have a really busy few weeks coming up, but I am hoping to have a few posts prepared so that I don’t leave you with a void again!

I hope you enjoyed this little blurb on where I’ve been lately =)

Catching Up: May Glymm Bag!

Hey lovelies!  This is my last catching-up post!  Yay! =D  I may have other posts up about older things, but they will all be newly crafted posts just for this blog =).

Hey Beauties!

So here we go, I will finally be caught up with my Glymm posts!  This is the most recent bag that I have received =)  (June will be here any day, lol).

This month:  Glymm goes Green!

New Packaging

The cutest make-up bag!!  The new waste-less packaging means that all of the goodies now come in this adorable little bag =).   I think it is the perfect size to slip into your purse.  Not too small to hold anything, but not so big that it will take over your whole bag.  Plus look at the colour! =D

The inside is super easy to clean too, so no worries if something spills.

See what I mean about not being too small!  Look at what this baby holds =)

For  Her: “Edgy, sexy, impulsive.  Shock yourself and everyone around you with this fierce bouquet of passionflower.”

Top Notes: Passionflower, pink peony, poppy flower

Mid Notes: liquid chocolate accord, blackberry, narcisse, jasmine

Base Notes: vanillin, patchouli, ambers, skin musk

For Him: “turn down the lights, amplify the sound.  ace on impulse.  Get addicted to this juicy scent.  IT’s fersh and leaves a lasting impression.”

Top Notes: Clementine, Purple Lavender, cucumber

Mid Notes: Psmanthus, black pepper, cardamom, black basil

Base Notes: Chocolate, Tobacco, Ambreine, Cashmeran musk, Patchouli

First goodies: CK one Shock for him and for her.  Samples give about 35 sprays.  Full sizes are 50mL/$45.

I used the one for her on a recent girls night, and was pleasantly surprised!  I don’t know what kind of smell I was expecting, but I don’t like super strong florals…  This was really nice.  A bit of floral, but also sort of fruity and musky.

All of my friends liked it too =D

I haven’t smelled the one for him.  My fiance doesn’t wear cologne ever either, so I’m really not sure what I’m going to do with this.  Maybe I’ll just wear it if i like how it smells =)

Next sample is NuMe Hydro Punch conditioner.  Up to 4 uses (20mL).  Full size is 250mL/$24.99.

I haven’t used this sample yet, more of my delayed gratification tactics =P.  I’ve been waiting for a time where I would specifically want really nice shiny hair.

What the description says:  “Turn dull and damaged hair into vibrant, healthy strands that you can’t help but twirl all day long.  A punch never sounded so appealing.  This conditioner is packed with Argan oil, fatty acids, vitamin E and powerful antioxidants.”

Ok, this one I’m going to rave about!!  This is Coola Cucumber mineral face matte finish sunscreen with SPF 30.  I really didn’t notice any cucumber scent, which I liked.

“Infused with certified organic ingredients like vitamins, antioxidants, Shea butter and borage seed oil.”  So it’s great for your skin too!  Sample size is 5mL (about 4 uses).

It is a physical sunscreen, meaning the active ingredients are Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide.  These minerals sit on top of your skin and immediately form a protective layer that reflects the UVA and UVB (yes they are broad spectrum) rays away from your skin.  This is different from chemical, and more common, sunscreens that contain ingredients such as avobenzone and oxybenzone.  These chemicals need time to absorb into your skin, meaning you have to apply 20 minutes before sun exposure.  They then absorb the UVA/UVB rays and this changes their chemistry, causing them to lose effectiveness.  Also oxybenzone might actually be a carcinogen when exposed to UV radiation!  yikes…  These sunscreens need multiple active ingredients to fully protect you from all UVB and UVA I and UVA II rays.  (UVB burns and UVA causes cancer).

This sunscreen goes on so light!  It is transparent (an improvement from the typical white ‘zinc nose’ that you see on lifeguards so often =p).  They claim that it makes a perfect primer, so I figured I would try this out today.  It works!  It kept me from getting shiny all day, made my foundation go on smoothly, and smoothed out the appearance of my pores.  Talk about bang for your buck!  I have been wearing this for 10 hours, and my face still feels great.  I am in love with this!

Just as a nice little bonus:  Coola products are on Haute Look today!   go check it out =D  I bought myself a full size (50mL) for only $18, it retails for $36.  Coola also donates a portion of their sales to cancer research =)  http://www.coolasuncare.com/

Next up, Mereadesso Lip Treats.

This is kind of a full size sample, it is one full size lip treat, but they actually sell in packages of 2 for $28.  I got the deep burgundy colour which sheers out really nicely on the lips!!  The other options to get were a light pink or a clear balm.

“Delight your lips with moisture and a punch of desired colour with this new and innovative Lip Treat.  This exceptionally moisturizing and soothing lip balm not only tints your lips but can also be layered to give them more intense colour.  What’s more?  It doubles as a primer for gloss.  It will enhance shine and keep your gloss in place longer.”

It certainly feels amazing on the lips!  Very smooth and soft and moisturizing, and I love the colour.  I haven’t tried it with gloss over-top yet though,  I don’t really think it needs it.

Next is a pair of skincare products form Caudalie.  The Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum and Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet.  Samples are 1mL each (about 3 uses)  These were included and meant to be used together.  I haven’t used them yet as I got this box just after I started using Origins, and I am so in love with Origins it’s hard to want to try anything else!

Serum:”Give your skin a splurge of hydration and restore moisture balance for softer mor supple skin.  This high potency serum captures and continually diffuses water deep within the skin to impart intense hydration.”  Full size is 30mL/$48

Sorbet: “Save your skin with this moisturizer.  Your face will feel refreshed, hydrated and comfortably soft.  This gel-cream has immediate and long-lasting calming properties.  It awakens the skin’s hydration mechanisms and replenishes it’s water reserves.”  Full size is 40mL/$38.

I used these while on a trip to Vancouver to visit my sister.  They definitely felt nice, but they weren’t so over the top amazing that I felt that I HAD to have them.  At this price I probably won’t purchase the full size of either of these.

and Finally (see, this baby was packed full of awesome stuff!) also from Caudalie, their Crushed Cabernet Scrub.  Full size is 150g/$29.  Sample is 60g.

“This natural, wine-inspired body scrub reveals softer and healthier skin.  Along with its coarse granules it also contains the 6 draining and cellulite fighting organic essential oils of the Contouring Concentrate – so boost your slimming regimen!”

I haven’t used this yet, as my shower is crammed full of products already and I have many backups waiting…  I’ve told myself I need to get to work on using them up and not try anything new for a while.  This might be a handy little container to take traveling though!!

As you can see these boxes are amazing!  So many great goodies =)

Catching Up: NOTD June 16!

Hey Beauties!

I bought two polishes from Essie at my Shopper’s the other day because they were on sale!  =D  That always makes me do a little happy dance, lol.

I bought ‘Action’ from the new “Poppy-razzi” collection, and Turquoise and Caicos, which I have been lusting after for quite some time now.

Action I’m not too thrilled with.

I was expecting an almost creamsicle -orange colour, but it really just comes out as a strange bright but not neon orange with a matte finish that doesn’t go well with the colour at all.  I have it on my toes, but it’s going to be coming off tomorrow.  Maybe when I have a tan it will look better?

On the other hand, Turquoise and Caicos is super gorgeous!  Just what I was expecting, looks just the same on the nails as in the bottle =)

This picture really doesn’t seem to show the colour well for me though.  It looks a lot “dirtier” and sort of a musty green, where it really is a beautiful turquoise colour.  It is really vibrant!

Here is a photo of my first time wearing it (lighting is a bit yellow):

This is going to be a favourite this summer for sure!

Hope you liked this little mini-review =)

What’s your favourite Essie colour??

Nature made you beautiful, Have fun with it!

Catching Up: April Glymm Box!

Hey Beauties!

It’s been a bit of a rough week, so I haven’t been able to post anything in a while.  But now I finally have a chance to sit down and share my April Glymm Box with you! =)

The usual packaging

And the theme is April Flowers!

First up: Free Your Mane shampoo and conditioner samples.  What the description says:  “I’m sorry, I can’t make it, gotta wash my hair”.  You will totally use this line after trying this shampoo & conditioner.  It gently cleanses hair and scalp while natural oils help rebuild your hair’s delicate moisture balance.  With an exclusive blend of Brilliant Baobab Oil from Africa, ultra-moisturizing Argan Oil form Morocco, anti-oxidant rich Pomegranate Seed Oil and Sweet Almond Oil it will truly Free Your Mane.”

Full size is 300mL for $16.00

I’m totally a delayed gratification kind of girl, and I always want to save little goodies like this for something special!  (Or travel).

I’m sure I will give in and try these soon though =D

Lucia Soap in No.6 (Also came in No.1 in some boxes).

What the description says: “These refined jewels are packed with pure botanical extracts and enriched with 100% certified organic Shea Butter.  Not only will your skin feel silky-soft, it will also be thuroghly cleansed and smelling so seductive.  Go ahead, drape yourself in luxury, you know you want to.  Signature scents include: Goat Milk & Linseed and Wild Ginger & Fresh Fig [my scent].”

This sounds amazing, I’m not so keen on the scent though.  It’s a bit perfume-y for me…  Because of this I haven’t tried this yet…

This is a full size 1 soap.  A package of 8 soaps retails for $17.50.

This is from Atelier Cologne, it is the Orange Sanguine Fragrance.  This is a typical perfume sample-size.  What the description says: “Atelier Cologne is a niche perfume house based in Paris and New York.  Each scent is intended to embody a “singular moment” of memory and experience.  We present to you Orange Sanguine, “It was the kind of moment you would want to revisit.  Everyone was here, gathered on the terrace for breakfast, and the scent of fresh oranges was diffusing in the yellow heat.  A symphony of their laughter and waves hitting the cliffs played in the air.””

Well after all that fancy-talk, I can tell you one thing:  THIS SMELLS AMAZING!  It really smells like a fresh ripe, juicy orange was just squeezed in your face, with just a hint of floral.  So good.  Perfect for summer when you just want a light fruity spritz that is more grown up than a body spray.  Seriously considering a full size of this baby: 30mL/$60 or 200mL/$165.

Next up is a Mai Couture Social Gloss in the colour …  I can’t remember, lol.  But you can see below that it is a beautiful nude shade with just a hint of pink to warm it up.

This I LOVE.  The colour is perfect for pairing a nude lip with a more dramatic/colourful eye, and it’s great to just swipe on and forget about.  It is extremely pigmented, the above swatch is just a tiny bit from one swipe.  It is a slightly thicker consistency and has some serious staying power.  This is a full size sample!!  5mL, which retails for $28, so it’s an awesome deal!

The description says: “Treat your lips with luxury you simply can’t live without.  Not only will this gloss fill in unwanted lines and restore moisture but it will create full kissable lips.  Your lips will be healthy and plump.  This sheer formula will create a sumptuous and luminous sheen.  The secret: a complex mix of plant extracts naturally enhances lip volume effortlessly without the allergen.  Your lips will be the life of the party.”

I don’t know why they say it is sheer, and I can’t vouch for the fine-lines claim, but it is a moisturizing gloss that I am in love with. =)

And, the bonus goodie in this month’s box: a $100 NuMe gift certificate!  So exciting!!  I used this to get a curling wand with 4 different sized barrels for only $79 =D.  I just tried it for the first time today, and it was so nice =).  I used the large barrel (1.5″ I think) to create some nice soft waves to go for brunch.  They came out beautifully.  It was windy and they didn’t stay put all day, but they did pretty well for my hair, which is notoriously hard to curl!  I think I’ll try a higher heat setting next time, and I’ll probably have more luck with the smaller barrels as well.

So for me this $100 gift certificate just put April’s box over the top! =D

Hope you enjoyed the April Flowers =)

Hey beauties!

So I have really exciting news… I just made my first Sigma purchase!  I know, I know I’m a little behind when it comes to these brushes, but it was a big investment decision.  I just had my birthday, so I decided to put some of the money I received towards purchasing the Sigmax Synthetic Essentials kit.  I CAN’T wait for these to arrive!!  The kit has 4 face brushes and 4 precision face brushes and costs $99.  I have been dreaming about a good foundation brush for a long time and think I might have finally found “the one”.

Finally: I started a youtube channel!! =D  I have wanted to for ages and finally got up the guts to do it.  I just have my intro video up right now, please go watch it to find out a little more about me =)  Let me know if you have any video suggestions and/or requests to help get me started.
