Favourite Spring Polish 2013!

Hey Beauties!

I am so sorry for my absence lately, there has been a lot going on in my personal life the past couple of weeks, and things have just been crazy.  I have had the corresponding video up for this post for a while now, but if you haven’t seen it be sure to  check it out!

In this post I am going to give you a quick overview of all of my favourite nail polishes for spring!  Who doesn’t love a good spring mani? =)

DSC08104

Here is my wonderful little nail wheel, with swatches of all the colours.  See one (or a few!) that you like?  Keep reading to find out what they are!

DSC08105

First up is an OPI topcoat called “Pirouette My Whistle” from the NYC Ballet collection.  I am in love with this polish for all seasons really, but I think it really works well for spring because of how light and delicate it is.  It is a clear base with a lot of very tiny silver glitter, mixed in with small pearlescent hexagonal glitter.  It looks beautiful no matter what colour you put it over, whether it is a soft nude or a deep vampy polish.

DSC08106

This one I had to throw in because I just got it in my most recent Ipsy Glam Bag, and it is stunning!  This is  “Neely” from Zoya.  It is a true milky, minty green.  Right on trend!  I used this in a gradient that I tried out on my nails here.

DSC08107

L – Essie “Mint Candy Apple” R – Zoya “Neely”

Here is a quick comparison of two  “Mint” nail polishes.  You can see here that Mint Candy Apple is really more of a robin’s egg blue than a mint green.

DSC08108

That brings me to my next favourite, Mint Candy Apple!  This is a beautiful soft blue creme polish.  It’s not the green colour that I thought it would be when I bought it.  I had heard so much about it last spring on YouTube that I figured it must be the perfect polish!  I do still love it though, just as a blue instead of a green.  Here it is as the main colour in a chevron manicure.

DSC08109

I had to show this little combo, because who doesn’t love a fresh, clean french manicure?  The little mini is from Essie’s wedding collection last spring, and it is called “Made to Honour”.  It is a beautiful pink and I love using it for a french mani.  The white polish is “Pointe Blanc” from Orly’s french manicure line.  It has a long skinny brush that makes it really easy to get a nice clean, crisp line along your tips without guides.

DSC08110

I was behind the game on this polish too.  This is another one that I had heard about all over YouTube and on beauty blogs everywhere.  It is the rose gold colour that has been so popular for the last year!  Orly “Rage” is a metallic rose gold polish that is just stunning.  If I can wear it, then I am sure it will go with any skin tone.  It is a nice neutral that provides just a little bit more “oomph” to your mani =), as seen here!

DSC08111

Now for a bright one!  This is a really beautiful orangey coral.  My camera had a tough time getting the colour accurate here, and it looks a bit more neon than it actually is in real life.  I would say that it is somewhere between a pastel and a neon.  It has a bit more punch than your typical pastel, but is much softer than a typical neon.  This is Essie’s “Tart Deco”, and I think it is pretty much perfect.  See it in a mani here!

DSC08112

This little mini is OPIs “Pedal Faster Suzi” from the Holland Collection.  It is a semi-sheer pale pink polish with silver micro-glitter.  I think this one is great when you need (or want) a subtle manicure, but you don’t want it to be boring.  I used this as the base colour for a houndstooth mani that you can see here!

DSC08113

This one is just as bright in person as it looks here!  OPI’s “Kiss My On My Tulips” is also from the Holland Collection last spring.  It is one of my favourite bright pinks, and it has a slightly cool undertone.  I love buying these little minis, because you get to try many colours for less than the price of one!  And honestly, who ever actually finishes an entire bottle of polish?!  I actually don’t have a recent mani to show you with this colour =(.

DSC08114

Essie’s “First Dance” is another mini from the Wedding collection last spring.  This is a bright, vibrant candy-apple red colour, and it is what lives on my toes in the spring and summer months!  About 90% of the time my toe nails are painted red (of course as I’m writing this they are actually orange =P), but I switch between a brighter red for the spring and summer and a deep crimson for the fall and winter.  There is just something classic that I love about a red toe polish.

DSC08115

NARS’s “Candy Darling” is another pink, but this one is even cooler toned than “Kiss Me On My Tulips” that I showed earlier.  More of a fuchsia than a pink almost.  My husband got this for me for Christmas (I don’t think I could ever stomach the price of a NARS polish on my own) as part of a set from the Andy Warhol collection that they put out last fall/winter.  The formula is great!  Maybe if other minis they have grab my attention I might be tempted…  Here it is used in a polka-dot manicure!

DSC08116

“Vespa” from Zoya’s first Pixie Dust collection is certainly the most unique polish in my favourites here, and maybe even my whole collection!  It is one of the textured, matte-but-glittery polishes in a gorgeous pale green colour.  This one takes getting used to for sure, having something gritty on your nails is so strange!  I found that I got shivers running up my spine if they rubbed against the wrong material (for instance my wool jacket).  However, I did love the effect that it gave, and I think I will be trying it next time with a matte top coat to try and smooth it out without losing the effect.

DSC08117

China Glaze’s “Champagne Kisses” is actually from their Christmas collection last year, but I am loving it for spring!  It is a nice warm champagne-gold colour that reminds me of sand.  Here you can see how I used it with a deep blue to create an ocean inspired manicure =).

DSC08118

For those of you looking for an office-approvied, but not-boring manicure, I would highly suggest Essie’s “Buy Me A Cameo”.  This is one of the most beautiful polishes that I have ever seen.  It is a gorgeous taupe colour, but it is quite warm, and almost has a pink pearlescent sheen.  It is a nice subtle manicure, but it is such a beautiful shade that you will spend all day staring at it ;).  This photo does not do it justice!

DSC08119

Now, if you need a polish for Easter, or if you just love lilac, this is the one for you!  Essie’s “Play Date” is a soft purple pastel creme.  It reminds me of “She’s Picture Perfect” from a past collection, except this doesn’t have the gold shimmer.  I have had this on my fingers a few times this spring, which is rare for me because I’m usually into more brights than pastels, and I don’t usually repeat the same polish within a couple of months!  Sadly, I didn’t seem to document any of these occasions =(.

DSC08120

Last but not least, is one of my all-time favourites, and a polish that I think is a genuinely unique colour.  Essie’s “Mint Mojito” is truly a grass-green polish.  I had wanted something that really showed green for a while, and when I found this one last spring I was sold!  It is not one of the neon greens that lean yellow (which looks awful on me), and it is not such a deep green that it looks more black.  This is a true green creme, and I love it =).  Here it is covered with a single coat of “Swinger” from Butter London.

I am sorry that I didn’t have photos of all of all of the polishes here on my nails, but I’m sure you can use your imagination =).

What are your favourite polishes for Spring??  Do you stick with pastels?

Recent Nail Polish Purchases

Hey Beauties!

Here is a quick recap of a few of my recent nail polish acquisitions =)

First off, I took advantage of the promotion that Zoya ran a couple of months ago, where you could buy three of their polishes, and only pay $10 shipping.  Of course I couldn’t resist!  I had never tried any Zoya polishes before this, so I figured it was the perfect time to try them out.  And I picked up an extra as well of course =)

DSC07789

This is the extra polish that I bought that wasn’t included in the promo because it is one of their new “Pixie Dust” polishes called “Vespa”.  It is a mossy green kind of colour with a hint of grey to it, but the really unique bit is the texture.  These are the new textured polishes that everyone is coming out with this spring.  They are gritty, matte and sparkly all at once.  They do have a nice matte finish, and the glitter is really pretty, but boy the texture is weird!  It took me a full day to get even a little bit used to having it on my fingers.  I kept getting shivers down my spine whenever they would brush against anything.  (I’m getting them now thinking about my nails brushing against my wool peacoat!).  I did like it though, and I think next time I’m going to try it with my OCC Flatline matte topcoat to smooth it out a little bit.  Here is a swatch.

What about you guys, have you tried the textured trend?  What do you think?

DSC07822DSC07821

“Meadow” is actually what I have on my nails right now.  I’ll link my NOTD post here.  I bought this one because it is so different from anything else that I have in my collection.  It looks pale pink with beautiful golden shimmer running through it.  I thought it would be perfect for a light spring look.  It seems to apply a bit darker on the nail, but when I hold them up to the bottle it looks the same, so I don’t know what the trick is!  It comes off as a bit more of a dusty rose colour, but the shimmer really glows.  It is a beautiful polish that I think will be more versatile now and be wearable all through the year!

DSC07820 DSC07819

This one I obviously had to get.  It’s my namesake polish! DSC07795 For those who don’t know, Zoya has a lot of polishes that are girls’ names, and it’s really fun to find the one that has your name.  I was really happy to find my polish is this gorgeous sparkly red =D.  In the bottle it is a rich red base with golden-orange chunkier shimmer (almost glitter, but not), running through it.  On the nail the golden-orange doesn’t show very strongly.  It comes off as a multi-dimensional red, and I am in love =D.  You can see it on my nails here in my Valentines Day NOTD.

DSC07817DSC07818

The last Zoya polish that I picked up was “Kimber”.  My camera had trouble handling this one because it is so bright!  It is a really vibrant pink, again with the nice gold shimmer running through it.  This is what I could consider “Barbie Pink”.  It is so amazing!  I haven’t worn it yet, but I have a feeling it will be on my nails a lot this summer =)

DSC07815DSC07816

Here are the polishes that I picked up at Sally’s and Walgreens:

DSC07798

First is Orly “Rage”.  I can’t believe how long it took me to get this polish!  It has been EVERYWHERE in the beauty world for probably the past year.  I finally wound up getting it because they changed their packaging (boo!  the new stuff looks cheap) and so Sally’s was having a promo where if you spent $3 you got an Orly polish in the old packaging for free!  I rooted around in the basket until I found this one, and I was so happy it was there =)  It is beautiful!  A true rose gold metallic polish.  You can see it on my nails here.

DSC07810DSC07812

Here is the polish that I bought to get the Orly for free.  It is China Glaze “Graffiti Glitter” from the Bitz ‘N Pieces collection.  It drew me in with the rich green and black glitter.  I have to say I was disappointed when I swatched it on my nail wheel to think of St. Patrick’s Day Ideas.  I thought it was a black base packed with glitter, but it turns out it is a clear base with sparse green hexagonal glitter, smaller black hexagonal glitter, and black bar glitter.  I’m sure I’ll find something that will make this great, but I’m not inspired as of yet.

DSC07813DSC07814

This is another polish that I had been wanting, but not for quite as long.  This is Essie’s “Beyond Cozy” from their latest holiday collection.  I made myself be good and resisted buying it when it first came out, and then I regretted that as soon as it was sold out!  So when I found it in my local Walgreens I wasn’t about to let it get away again!  I can’t wait to try this one =)

Finally; here is a nail art kit that I bought from Nasty Nails.  You can see the look I did with it here, as well as a review of the kit and the website!

What are your recent purchases?  Have you been weak like me?  haha.

NOTD: “Trendy Tips” and Nasty Nails Review!

Hey Beauties!

Here is my late Easter NOTD.  I wanted to put this up at the same time that I posted my video tutorial, and that took me ages to edit!  It was my first try, so I had a lot of errors, lol.  ^_^  This look is inspired by the “Trendy Tips” nail art kit that I bought from Nasty Nails, and I used it to create this manicure.

Here is the photo from Nasty Nails:

2613_trendytips_hand

and here is the Kit:

2613_trendytips_hero_copy

I think it looks so beautiful!  Would you guys wear a look like this?  It is a great way to mix up neutrals and pastels or neons, which is very on-trend right now.

Here is everything that came with it: Essie “Tart Deco”, Essie “Play Date”, Essie “Sand Tropez”, Essie “Mint Candy Apple”, Orly “Spark” and some silver striping tape.  All of this for only $25.99!

DSC07823

Orly “Spark” is a bright ‘sunshine’ yellow creme

DSC07824 DSC07825DSC07849DSC07850

Essie “Tart Deco” is a beautiful coral creme.  It looks quite pastel in the bottle but really comes off quite bright on the nail! DSC07827DSC07844DSC07845

Essie “Play Date” is a pale lavender creme.  It reminds me of “She’s Picture Perfect” from their spring line last year (I think), but without the golden shimmer.

DSC07828DSC07830DSC07842DSC07843

Essie “Sand Tropez” is the base colour for this manicure.  I know that a lot of people love it for a neutral polish.  I don’t think I would ever wear this on it’s own, it doesn’t work well enough with my skin tone, but I did love it as the base for brightly coloured nail art!

DSC07831DSC07832DSC07840DSC07841

Essie “Mint Candy Apple” has a bit of a cult following in the beauty world, and I figured this was the ideal way for me to get my hands on it.  I really found it more blue than green and I was really surprised.  It is beautiful though!

DSC07833DSC07834DSC07847DSC07848

This colour didn’t come with the kit, and I didn’t use it in the manicure, but I did buy it as a single polish for only $4!  Essie “Bobbing for Baubles” is a beautiful steely-blue.  It is a deep navy colour with almost a “smoky” effect.  I love it!

DSC07835DSC07836 DSC07837DSC07838

And here is my version!  I threw in Essie “Mojito Madness” on my thumb, because I needed a fifth colour to round it out nicely!  Be sure to watch my tutorial for a step by step on how to create this look!

IMG_0762 IMG_0763 IMG_0764

All in all I am really happy with this kit.  Nasty Nails has tons of these kits as well as polish strips and single polishes, all at really great prices, and with free shipping =).  I have my eye on a few more, and I will be sure to review them for you should I decide to purchase.

This post is not sponsored, I’m just really happy with the experience!

Have you ever purchased from Nasty Nails?  Be sure to tweet me photos if you recreate this look! @wstcoastbeauty

NOTD: St. Patrick’s Day!

Top o’ the Mornin’ to ya Beauties!

I hope you are enjoying your St. Patrick’s Day weekend =).  I wanted to do a quick post tonight to show you the nails that I chose to do for St. Paddy’s!

First, here is my wheel of inspiration that I did a few days ago, just playing around with different colours and ideas to see what I liked:IMG_0666

Yay Nail wheels!

And here is what I decided to go with:

IMG_0681 IMG_0679

I have two coats of Essie’s “Mojito Madness” as a green base underneath one coat of Butter London’s “Swinger”.  I am really happy with how it turned out!  I think this is the perfect grassy Irish green for St. Patrick’s Day =).  I used Orly “Luxe” on my accent nail and a thin piece of striping tape in a green colour that closely matched the green of my other nails!

Mojito Madness is a little bit lighter green with a creme finish.  The texture is a little bit tough to work with, it tends to streak and go on a little bit patchy since it is thick.  It stays tacky for a long time too.

mojito_madness

Swinger is a lime green glitter, one that I really wasn’t sure that I would ever wear when I got it for Christmas, but it looks SO amazing!

swinger

Orly’s “LUXE” is a gold metallic foil finish, it is very opaque.  If it weren’t for my strange need to put at least 2 coats of polish (usually 3), this one really only needs one coat!  But, I put two…

Luxe

I hope you liked my version of a St. Paddy’s Day manicure!

Do you do holiday themed manicures?  If you did a St. Patrick’s Day nail look, I would love to see a picture!  Tweet them to me @wstcoastbeauty with the hashtag #wstcoastbeauty_stpaddys or tag them on Instagram with the same hashtag so that I can find them!

Recent NOTDs

Hey Beauties!

I’m sorry it’s been so long again!  For my first new post I am going to catch you up on some of my recent nail polish adventures!  This one’s going to be picture heavy!

First up:  “Foggy” by Pop Beauty.  I had my eye on this for over a year before I finally purchased it.  I saw it in a boutique store in Vancouver, but they were selling for $20 each!  Too steep for me =(.  My friend and I were there for about an hour and we tried on every single colour they had.  So much fun!  This was my stand out favourite.  It is a medium grey with a beautiful shimmer that makes it so beautiful and not your boring average grey.  I was so excited to see it was on HauteLook, and for only $3!!  I couldn’t resist and bought 5 colours =)

IMG_0468

Next up is another Pop Beauty polish!  This is “Denim Metal”, a glitter-packed metallic blue.  It reminds me of Essie’s “Aruba Blue”, but full of blue and silver micro-glitter.  The texture is a little strange to apply, but it turns into a beautiful finish.  I do think it looks way better with a top coat, the glitter kind of sucks in the shine a little bit without it. A nice vibrant colour that I think I will be wearing it a lot in the summer.

IMG_0478

This was a bit of an experiment of mixing colours.  My main colour is “Marrow” by Butter London and I honestly don’t know what the accent colour is.  It is an OPI mini that my mom got me for Christmas a couple of years ago.  Marrow is a really nice purple creme polish, that I find has a hint of grey to it.  It isn’t the greatest formula that I have encountered from Butter London and goes on a bit patchy, but three coats finish it up nicely.  This is going to be a staple on my nails for the fall!  The OPI colour is a really rich dark purple with blue and purple shimmer.

IMG_0479

This next colour is from the China Glaze fall Safari collection.  It is called “Exotic Encounters”.  This is a dusty turquoise creme polish and took 2 coats to be fully opaque.  Here i topped it with OCC “Flatline” topcoat for a matte finish.  I really like how it turned out!  It’s not quite like a blackboard on your nails, which I like =)  I managed to avoid the white spots with the topcoat this time too!  This is the only polish I picked up from the collection.  Do you guys have any other favourites that I should try to find?

IMG_0538

These were my Valentine’s Day nails ❤  I used my new Zoya polish (the first time I ever tried one!) in “Sarah”.  How can I not love it when my namesake polish is this gorgeous?!  It’s a fiery red with golden orange micro-glitter that really shows in the bottle more than the nail.  It is such a vibrant colour!  I can’t get over how beautiful this is =)  I think I’m a little biased ;).  I used Konad stamping polish and a Spa Secrets plate to stamp on the hearts to make it a little bit more festive.

IMG_0547

Ok, this is a colour that I should have had on my hands a LONG time ago, especially after everything I heard about it.  I finally did when I went to Sally’s and they had a promotion on where if you spent $3 you got an Orly polish in the old packaging for free!  I found this little guy hiding in the basket =)  “Rage” is a beautiful rose gold metallic polish with a foil finish.  It is really nice because it works on every skin tone.  It doesn’t make you look pasty and cold like silver can, and it doesn’t make you look sallow, like true gold can.  It’s a really nice metallic neutral.  Plus, who wasn’t obsessed with rose gold?  I used Sally Hansen “Strobe Light” as the glitter accents, I’m not sure that I liked how it looked though.  They looked like a very similar tone so I thought they would work nicely together (I hadn’t used either polish yet), but not so much.  The smaller pink glitter disappeared into the base polish and it kind of just left these random sparse large silver chunks, not pretty!  [On a side note, I am really sad Orly changed their packaging. I loved the old rubberized lids!  It was my favourite packaging of all polish =(  Now they look kind of cheap…]

IMG_0556

IMG_0558

Don’t they look like they would work well together?

IMG_0561

This was a fun experiment.  This is Zoya’s new Pixie Dust formula!  I picked up “Vespa” a pale sage green and got it the first day it shipped!  These are designed to be matte, textured polish with obvious glitter particles.  It is definitely all of those things!  It took 3-4 coats to be fully opaque, and the textured finish really took a while to get used to.  For the first day it was so weird, it felt like I had something stuck to my nails, and I got that “shivers down my spine” feeling whenever they brushed up against something.  Especially my wool jacket!  After a while I got used to it though.  It was a really unique look!  I think this is a similar idea to OPI Liquid Sand polishes.

IMG_0635

IMG_0650

I tried to mess up the focus to show the glitter!

IMG_0651

Ok, this is the last one for this post, I promise!!

This is sadly another unknown colour though.  I really wish they would put the names on the minis! =(.  It is a beautiful pink with a subtle shimmer from the Holland Collection [I think it is “Pedal Faster Suzi!”].  It’s a very nice cool toned pink, not normally a colour I would wear, but I really liked it =).  I bought this in a mini set that came with 4 (5?) of the polishes from the collection.  This is definitely a winter/spring colour that will look best on me when I have a pale complexion.  I used a Spa Secrets stamping plate and a Konad polish to do the houndstooth print on my accent nail.  It didn’t quite work perfectly, but I think it was pretty good for a first try at a full nail stamp!  Sadly my top coat smudged it.  I think I need to invest in the Konad top coat.

IMG_0657

Sorry this was so long!  I hope you enjoyed it though =)  My next polish post will be on my St. Patrick’s Day nails! =D

NOTD: Black and Bling

Hey Beauties!

Here is what is on my nails today:

Image

This is Orly “Liquid Vinyl” (2 coats), which is just a plain black polish, topped with Orly “Atomic Splash” (2 coats).  I have it topped with Orly’s Won’t Chip top coat, last time I paired Orly with Orly like this it lasted well over a week with only minor tip wear!  We shall see if this is a recurring phenomenon…

Atomic Splash

Atomic Splash is from Orly’s Flash Glam FX line.  It is a clear base with small circular and large hexagonal glitter particles.  The glitter itself is a beautiful pewter grey colour.  I wish it was opaque enough to wear on its own!  I think the effect would be really cool, but I also think it would take about 50 coats…  As far as a glitter goes it is quite easy to work with.  I find it similar to OPI’s “Pirouette my Whistle” top coat, in that the glitter goes on really easily, but it is a bit tricky to get it evenly distributed.

I am pleased with the result though, it catches the light nicely!  I think I Instagrammed a photo of this right after I bought it, over a copper colour and I said I wasn’t thrilled with it.  Obviously that was just a poor choice in colour pairing!

Do you like glittery nails?

xoxo

NOTD: Christmas Edition!

Hey Beauties!

Today’s post is going to be about the nails that I will be wearing Christmas Day =).  I can’t believe it is almost here!  This year has flown by, I’ve been very busy =).

IMG_0361

My Right Hand

I have China Glaze “Phat Santa” on my first three fingers, topped with China Glaze “Ruby Pumps”, for a festive sparkly red.  Then I have Orly “Luxe” on my ring finger with designs in Butter London “British Racing Green”.

IMG_0360

My Left Hand

On my pinkies I tried something new.  I have China Glaze “White on White” (I think?  It’s packed away now so I can’t check!) and the candy cane stripes are done with striping tape.  I ordered a whole bunch on eBay (for about $2), and they finally came, so I figured I would try them out.  It is fairly easy to work with, but very thin.  If you lose the end good luck finding it again!  The biggest issue I have with it is that the ends peel up a bit, and I’ve had to file them down.  Also the colour seemed to fade really fast.  This was a bright sparkly red, but now looks more pink…  You need a couple coats of good thick top-coat over top to make them feel smooth.  I will keep trying these as I have more than I could use in a lifetime, and will keep you posted!

I hope you liked my Christmas Nails!

Please tweet me photos of your festive nails, I love to see them and get inspired!  @wstcoastbeauty
