NOTD: Geometric Orange

Hey Beauties!

It has been a long time since I have posted a nail of the day post.  I tried out a little bit of free-hand geometric designs to go along with my bright summer colour.  Let me know what you think!

These are the various tools that I needed to do this manicure:  (The Orly top coat should be Seche Clear base coat… oops!)  Sally Hansen “Poppy”, China Glaze “White On White”, Pop Beauty (no name as far as I know), and Butter London “P.D. Quick Topcoat”.

Here’s a better view of the brushes that I used.  These are just cheap synthetic nail brushes that I bought on eBay.  A long, skinny striping brush to make the initial lines; and a short flat topped brush as well as a short angle brush to fill in the black and white squares.

Here is the result!  Please excuse that the geometric shapes aren’t all perfect like most of the photos that I see on Instagram…  this was my first go, and being all artistic and good at drawing isn’t my strong point!

I hope you like this design!  I was originally going to do my ring and middle fingers with the patterns, instead of the index and ring fingers.  What do you think?  Would you have liked that better?  I think I would have.  Oh well, next time!

This manicure is actually coming off right after I post this.  It’s starting to chip =(.  But it wore for about 4 days very well!

NOTD: Blue Ombre

Hey Beauties,

Here is my next NOTD: Blue Ombre.  I’ve never tried out any type of ombre, whether it’s within the nail or across all of the nails, but it’s fun!  If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen the photo of my nail wheel where I was experimenting with my colours to try and find out what would work.  I tried using the white or black polish underneath the colour and only using one polish, but I didn’t get very good results.  The black worked really well to darken the polish, but I really didn’t notice a difference with the white (now this may have been because I was trying on a nail wheel where the “nails” are already kind of white…).  I decided to go with the blues because I actually had 5 different polishes that I thought worked well together.

Here is the result!

Here are the polishes:

Essie: Aruba Blue

Butter London: Blagger

Pop Beauty: Brave

Essie: Mint Candy Apple

Incase you didn’t see it on Instagram (go follow me so that you don’t miss anything!!) here is the nail wheel that I was playing with.  I tried out blue, green and purple.  I was feeling the cool colours I guess.  I don’t have enough pinks to do this with! =(

Recent NOTDs

Hey Beauties!

I’m sorry it’s been so long again!  For my first new post I am going to catch you up on some of my recent nail polish adventures!  This one’s going to be picture heavy!

First up:  “Foggy” by Pop Beauty.  I had my eye on this for over a year before I finally purchased it.  I saw it in a boutique store in Vancouver, but they were selling for $20 each!  Too steep for me =(.  My friend and I were there for about an hour and we tried on every single colour they had.  So much fun!  This was my stand out favourite.  It is a medium grey with a beautiful shimmer that makes it so beautiful and not your boring average grey.  I was so excited to see it was on HauteLook, and for only $3!!  I couldn’t resist and bought 5 colours =)

Next up is another Pop Beauty polish!  This is “Denim Metal”, a glitter-packed metallic blue.  It reminds me of Essie’s “Aruba Blue”, but full of blue and silver micro-glitter.  The texture is a little strange to apply, but it turns into a beautiful finish.  I do think it looks way better with a top coat, the glitter kind of sucks in the shine a little bit without it. A nice vibrant colour that I think I will be wearing it a lot in the summer.

This was a bit of an experiment of mixing colours.  My main colour is “Marrow” by Butter London and I honestly don’t know what the accent colour is.  It is an OPI mini that my mom got me for Christmas a couple of years ago.  Marrow is a really nice purple creme polish, that I find has a hint of grey to it.  It isn’t the greatest formula that I have encountered from Butter London and goes on a bit patchy, but three coats finish it up nicely.  This is going to be a staple on my nails for the fall!  The OPI colour is a really rich dark purple with blue and purple shimmer.

This next colour is from the China Glaze fall Safari collection.  It is called “Exotic Encounters”.  This is a dusty turquoise creme polish and took 2 coats to be fully opaque.  Here i topped it with OCC “Flatline” topcoat for a matte finish.  I really like how it turned out!  It’s not quite like a blackboard on your nails, which I like =)  I managed to avoid the white spots with the topcoat this time too!  This is the only polish I picked up from the collection.  Do you guys have any other favourites that I should try to find?

These were my Valentine’s Day nails ❤  I used my new Zoya polish (the first time I ever tried one!) in “Sarah”.  How can I not love it when my namesake polish is this gorgeous?!  It’s a fiery red with golden orange micro-glitter that really shows in the bottle more than the nail.  It is such a vibrant colour!  I can’t get over how beautiful this is =)  I think I’m a little biased ;).  I used Konad stamping polish and a Spa Secrets plate to stamp on the hearts to make it a little bit more festive.

Ok, this is a colour that I should have had on my hands a LONG time ago, especially after everything I heard about it.  I finally did when I went to Sally’s and they had a promotion on where if you spent $3 you got an Orly polish in the old packaging for free!  I found this little guy hiding in the basket =)  “Rage” is a beautiful rose gold metallic polish with a foil finish.  It is really nice because it works on every skin tone.  It doesn’t make you look pasty and cold like silver can, and it doesn’t make you look sallow, like true gold can.  It’s a really nice metallic neutral.  Plus, who wasn’t obsessed with rose gold?  I used Sally Hansen “Strobe Light” as the glitter accents, I’m not sure that I liked how it looked though.  They looked like a very similar tone so I thought they would work nicely together (I hadn’t used either polish yet), but not so much.  The smaller pink glitter disappeared into the base polish and it kind of just left these random sparse large silver chunks, not pretty!  [On a side note, I am really sad Orly changed their packaging. I loved the old rubberized lids!  It was my favourite packaging of all polish =(  Now they look kind of cheap…]

Don’t they look like they would work well together?

This was a fun experiment.  This is Zoya’s new Pixie Dust formula!  I picked up “Vespa” a pale sage green and got it the first day it shipped!  These are designed to be matte, textured polish with obvious glitter particles.  It is definitely all of those things!  It took 3-4 coats to be fully opaque, and the textured finish really took a while to get used to.  For the first day it was so weird, it felt like I had something stuck to my nails, and I got that “shivers down my spine” feeling whenever they brushed up against something.  Especially my wool jacket!  After a while I got used to it though.  It was a really unique look!  I think this is a similar idea to OPI Liquid Sand polishes.

I tried to mess up the focus to show the glitter!

Ok, this is the last one for this post, I promise!!

This is sadly another unknown colour though.  I really wish they would put the names on the minis! =(.  It is a beautiful pink with a subtle shimmer from the Holland Collection [I think it is “Pedal Faster Suzi!”].  It’s a very nice cool toned pink, not normally a colour I would wear, but I really liked it =).  I bought this in a mini set that came with 4 (5?) of the polishes from the collection.  This is definitely a winter/spring colour that will look best on me when I have a pale complexion.  I used a Spa Secrets stamping plate and a Konad polish to do the houndstooth print on my accent nail.  It didn’t quite work perfectly, but I think it was pretty good for a first try at a full nail stamp!  Sadly my top coat smudged it.  I think I need to invest in the Konad top coat.

Sorry this was so long!  I hope you enjoyed it though =)  My next polish post will be on my St. Patrick’s Day nails! =D

Haul: HauteLook – Pixi and Pop Beauty

Hey Beauties!

Today’s post is a haul from HauteLook of Pixi and Pop Beauty products =)  If you’ve never heard of HauteLook before, be sure to check it out here, it is totally free and a great place to find awesome deals!  Quick note: they are back on HauteLook today until Friday at 8AM!

=D My Haul!

First up are the nail polishes.  Pop Beauty polishes are non-occlusive (won’t stain your nails) and “Three Free”, which means they contain no Toluene, Formaldehyde or DBP.  They are amazing polishes!  I was shopping with a friend once back in Canada, and we stumbled upon some of these nail polishes in a shop in Vancouver.  They were so pretty we couldn’t help ourselves!  20 minutes later we had painted every nail a different colour with the tester shades, and my friend was buying 2, at $20 each!  Now that was too steep for me to swallow on nail polish, so I passed.  But I did borrow hers to paint my nails that night, and loved it!  The formula is great, and they last ages on the nails.  You can find these at Ulta, POPBeauty,, or Amazon for $10 each.  I picked these up for $3 each on HauteLook!  These are the colours that I purchased:

Pop Beauty nail polish: Foggy

The most beautiful mid-tone grey with subtle blue and pink shimmer running through it.  I had wanted this colour ever since I tried it in the store.  It was my absolute favourite!  So excited to have this for the winter =)

Pop Beauty nail polish: Denim Metal

A brilliant metallic blue with blue shimmer.

Pop Beauty nail polish in Ocean

A stunning royal blue with slightly purple shimmer running through it.

Pop Beauty nail polish: Brave

I can’t wait to wear this one in the summer!  It is a vibrant turquoise with subtle shimmer.  Hello mermaid nails!

Pop Beauty nail polish: Black

Just a nice, opaque creme black polish.

Next, I also picked up a few items from Pixi.  I know they are available at Target, but they are pricey for a drugstore brand, so I have never picked anything up to try.  I have heard great things about their products though, so when I saw them on HauteLook I decided to give them a shot!  Each of these products was $6.

The Endless Silky Eye Pens are pencil eyeliners described as “Waterproof.  Gives the intense colour of a liquid liner in an easy to apply gel pencil.  No retouching required all day.”  I haven’t worn these on my eyes, but I have swatched them on my hands.  They glide on SO nicely, soft and creamy.  You can work with them right after you apply to blend out for a softer look, or smudge them to use as a base.  However, once they set, they are not going anywhere!  I rubbed and rubbed at the swatch on my hand, and it even took some good scrubbing to get it off when I washed my hands.  Definitely water and smudge proof!  Just what I need in an eyeliner =)

Cafe Gold is a beautiful warm brown with subtle gold shimmer running through it.  This is my ideal every day shade of eyeliner.

Black Tulip looks like it is going to be a midnight blue based on the packaging, but it really isn’t too far off from black.  As far as I could tell it just looked like a softer black.  Kind of disappointed about that =(

The Succulent Lip Twin is a multi-use lip & cheek duo.  “Natural oils & extracts condition and protect while adding a tint of awakening colour”.  This is a neat two in one product.  In the tube portion there is a lip balm with vitamin E, jojoba oil and lavender extract.  It is a nice silky coloured balm.  In the cap is the lip & cheek cream with shea butter and aloe vera.  This can just be rubbed on to the lips (kind of like a eos lip balm) or on the cheeks and then blended.  Both are very moisturizing!  It has cute packaging, great colour payoff, and I think it is the perfect idea to throw in your purse and always have on you!

The final product I picked up was a Tinted Brilliance Balm.  I have been wanting one of the Tarte lip pencils like this for a while, and this was a fraction of the price, so I figured I’d give it a shot first!  “This balm provides hydration, sheer colour & lip stain.  With shea butter & lip-plumping hyaluronic acid, it will keep your lips in optimum condition.”  I didn’t even realize it had hyaluronic acid, bonus!  This is a chubby pencil lip balm/stain.  I figured I would try the berry colour since it is getting into fall/winter!

Tinted Brilliance Balm in Bitten Berry

Tinted Brilliance Balm in Bitten Berry

Um, a little bit of a difference between the packaging and the product!!!  I got so scared when I opened it for the first time, lol.  I was filming and got my reaction, or so I thought until I found out my camera had died =(

Tinted Brilliance Balm in Bitten Berry

As you can see, it glides on to give a beautiful, sheer “bitten” stain of colour.  I think the name “Bitten Berry” describes this perfectly.  It is very hydrating and comfortable to wear on the lips.  I haven’t tested the longevity of this yet, but will let you know when I do!  I have a feeling it isn’t super long lasting, just because of how silky it is, but maybe the stain penetrates and lasts longer?

Based on these products I will be trying more Pixi in the future for sure!  Do you have any favourite products you would recommend?

Hope you enjoyed this!
