Open With Me: December Glam Bag (And Giveaway!)

Hey Beauties!  Here is my December Glam Bag from Ipsy.

Be sure to check out the end for giveaway details!  Enjoy!

The bag this month is a slender pencil-case shaped makeup bag in a shiny pewter/gunmetal grey colour.  It would work as a small clutch if you just wanted your basics!

Packed with goodies!

“The Cards” featuring a $20 discount code for

I spy a full-sized product!

Cute Insides!

The inside of the bag is really cute!  It is bright pink with “ipsy” written all over the inside.  As always the inside is an easy-to-clean material, making it ideal for carrying makeup.

NYX: Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Eyeshadow in #20 “Mocha Pearl”

First up: NYX Ultra Pearl Mania loose eyeshadow in #20: Mocha Pearl.  I have never worked with NYX loose eyeshadows before, and in general I tend to stay away from them (Except for Bare Minerals) because they are so messy!  This was no exception.  The packaging on the sample isn’t the greatest, and upon opening it to examine the colour more closely, it went everywhere! =/

NYX: Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Eyeshadow in #20 “Mocha Pearl”

It is a beautiful shade though.  A really nice shimmery taupe-gold kind of colour.  It would be a great way to add just a little “something” to a neutral eye look.  I am going to try this out for sure!  I think it would look great just pressed on the lid to complement an otherwise all matte look.

MAI Couture: St. Bart’s Highlighter Paper

MAI Couture: St. Bart’s Highlighter Paper

Next Up: MAI Couture St. Barts highlighter paper.  I have gotten blush sheets from them before in another beauty box, and these are the same idea.  This pack contains 25 sheets of highlighter paper that you can tear out and just gently rub wherever you want some shimmer.  They are ideal for traveling or having in your purse for on-the-go touch ups!  They are really pigmented, I think I would only need half a sheet to highlight my entire face.  They are also Talc free and paraben free, which is always a bonus =).

MAI Couture: St. Bart’s Highlighter Paper

I tried to swatch it for you, but it was tough!  You can kind of see the square outline where I started.  It gives a beautiful peachy-champagne shimmery highlight.  It could easily double as blush for a day of toned-down cheeks.  This was just one gentle sweep, which shows you how much colour comes off!  They have a silky feel to them, and the staying power is pretty good on my arm.  I will try these out and let you know how they do on my face!

Urban Decay: 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil in “Zero”

This next product is the giveaway product! =D

It is a travel-sized Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner pencil in “Zero” which is black.  The reason I am giving this away is that I already have one!  I love these pencils.  I have a travel set of 4 browns and this black, and I wear them all the time.  They glide on so smoothly, and last for ages (even on my oily eyelids!).  No swatches of this one because I didn’t want to mess it up =).

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics: lipgloss in “Hot Mess”

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics: lipgloss in “Hot Mess”

This is by far the most exciting product in this bag for me.  It is Be A Bombshell Cosmetics lip gloss in “Hot Mess”.  This colour, OMG!  It is a bright fire-engine red.  So amazing!!  Perfect for a statement lip, especially over the holidays when this came!  It is smooth, and not too sticky, and extremely pigmented.  And full size products are always awesome!  I have loved everything I have received from Be A Bombshell so far, a new brand that I have been introduced to through my beauty box subscriptions =).  This product doesn’t have any fragrance to it, it just kind of has “makeup-smell”, but only if you stick your nose in it =P

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics: lipgloss in “Hot Mess”

This will show you how pigmented it is.  This is one swipe with just the product that came out on the applicator.  Love it!

Mirabella Prime for Face and Eyes

Finally, we have Mirabella Prime For Face and Eyes.  A silicon primer that they say “slides on the skin creating the perfect base for any mirabella foundation”.  This basically exploded everywhere when I opened it.  I’m not sure if the elevation change coming up to Wyoming messed with the pressure inside the tube?  But it wouldn’t stop coming out!  I tried a bit on the back of my hand, and it felt very similar to my Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, and it looks the exact same.  If I can figure out how to make it not spew everywhere when I open it it will be perfect to take travelling.

Ok: now for the giveaway details.

NOTD: Black and Bling

Hey Beauties!

Here is what is on my nails today:

This is Orly “Liquid Vinyl” (2 coats), which is just a plain black polish, topped with Orly “Atomic Splash” (2 coats).  I have it topped with Orly’s Won’t Chip top coat, last time I paired Orly with Orly like this it lasted well over a week with only minor tip wear!  We shall see if this is a recurring phenomenon…

Atomic Splash

Atomic Splash is from Orly’s Flash Glam FX line.  It is a clear base with small circular and large hexagonal glitter particles.  The glitter itself is a beautiful pewter grey colour.  I wish it was opaque enough to wear on its own!  I think the effect would be really cool, but I also think it would take about 50 coats…  As far as a glitter goes it is quite easy to work with.  I find it similar to OPI’s “Pirouette my Whistle” top coat, in that the glitter goes on really easily, but it is a bit tricky to get it evenly distributed.

I am pleased with the result though, it catches the light nicely!  I think I Instagrammed a photo of this right after I bought it, over a copper colour and I said I wasn’t thrilled with it.  Obviously that was just a poor choice in colour pairing!

Do you like glittery nails?

NOTD: Green and Gold Holiday Nails

Hey Beauties,

Here is another Christmasy NOTD!  This time it is gold and green themed.  Getting more in the actual festive spirit rather than just wintery =)  I used stamping again and a couple of my favourite Christmas nail polishes.  Check out my entire post on my favourite holiday polishes for 2012!  This is the look on my nails right now, but it will probably be changed on the weekend, so look out for another new holiday NOTD coming soon!

Here is the finished look:

My Left Hand

My Left Hand

I used stamping again for this look.  All of the stamps on both hands came from the     QA19 plate that I got off of eBay.  I don’t think it has any type of brand, but I bought it because it is an entirely Christmas themed plate!  You can buy these plates here.

I started out with a base of 2 coats of Butter London’s “British Racing Green” to get an opaque beautiful green.  Then I used “Luxe” by Orly to trace out and fill in a diagonal line along the tips of my nails on my index and middle fingers, and vertical lines on my thumb and pinkie finger.  Don’t worry about being too perfect, the glitter covers it!

The glitter that I used is China Glaze’s “Winter Holly”.  Going back I would have liked to use a more opaque glitter for this step.  This polish is more of a clear base with small particles of green and gold glitter.  I used a small synthetic brush for acrylic nails (I bought a set of brushed off eBay specifically to use for nail art) to paint a line of glitter over the intersection of the green and the gold.  It took about 3 coats to be opaque enough to cover the line, ideally I would use a polish that would only take 1, the results would be much neater!

My Right Hand

My Right Hand

I then used the stamping plate and the Konad stamping polish in white pearl to add the tree and the cabin and snowflakes.  I then used a small synthetic fan brush from the same kit off eBay to create the look of soft snow under the tree.  I really liked how it came out!  I used a small dotting tool to add a few gold spots on the tree to look like decorations =).

I finished it off again with the Orly “Won’t Chip” top coat.  I have been wearing this look for 4-5 days now and only have one itty-bitty chip on my thumb that isn’t even noticeable.

These are the polishes that I used!

China Glaze – Winter Holly

Orly – Luxe

I hope you enjoyed this post!  Again, please send me photos of your holiday nails, I love to get inspired!

Nail Polish for Holiday 2012! <3

Hey Beauties!

I hope you enjoyed my post on my Favourite Fall/Winter nail polishes for 2012 =)

Here is my promised post on my favourite Holiday polishes for 2012!  When it gets into December I like to start wearing nail polish that puts me in the holiday mood =).  That usually includes rich reds, glittery golds, and gorgeous greens.  This year I even tossed in a beautiful blue!  (Yay alliteration =D).  So this post will cover my favourite Christmasy nail polishes, as well as my favourite New Years polishes.  Enjoy!

The Colour Wheel

The Colour Wheel

The Reds!

The Reds!

Orly - Bus Stop CrimsonChina Glaze - Ruby Pumps

Orly – Bus Stop Crimson
China Glaze – Ruby Pumps

Bus Stop Crimson is a beautiful deep true red colour.  I don’t tend to wear reds of this shade on my hands ever, but it lives on my toes through the fall and winter!  To make it feel a bit more festive I like to top it off with a coat of Ruby Pumps to make my toes all glittery =)

China Glaze - Ruby Pumps

China Glaze – Ruby Pumps

Ruby Pumps is a beautiful red glitter suspended in a slightly red base.  The glitter is very dense, and if you are using it over another polish, one coat is plenty!

China Glaze - Phat Santa

China Glaze – Phat Santa

Phat Santa is my perfect red creme polish for Christmas.  It reminds me of the colour of holly berries!  Nothing is more festive than a good red nail =)

The Golds and Top Coats

The Metallics and Top Coats

Sally Hansen - Disco Ball

Sally Hansen – Disco Ball

I used Disco Ball to make the snow in my Blue Christmas nail look here.  It is a beautiful fine holographic glitter suspended in a clear base.  Great to give any look a hint of “bling”!

Essie - As Gold As It Gets

Essie – As Gold As It Gets

As Gold As It Gets is one of my favourite top coats for this season.  It is an extremely fine gold flake top coat.  Just one coat of this adds a subtle gold sheen to any polish colour.

Orly - Luxe

Orly – Luxe

Luxe is a bit of a shape shifter for me.  On first glance it is a beautiful shimmety metallic gold polish, but upon closer inspection there is some silver in there too!  It is almost a mixed-metal type polish.  It looks mostly gold on the nail, but when the light hits it it can reflect that beautiful silver.  Nothing is more festive than silver and gold! (yes yes I know I contradict myself…)

The Greens and Blues

The Greens and Blues

China Glaze - Winter HollyButter London - British Racing Green

China Glaze – Winter Holly
Butter London – British Racing Green

Winter Holly is a really nice green glitter with flecks of gold in a clear base, I love to layer it over British Racing Green!  BRG is a beautiful hunter green creme polish that also featured in my favourite fall/winter polishes =)

Essie – Aruba Blue

Aruba Blue is such a gorgeous colour.  I lusted after it for almost a year before finally getting it a few weeks ago.  I’ve used this already for a holiday look, and it is the perfect winter blue!  A deep blue shimmer that looks like the sea =)

This is the combination I used to make the snow in this nail look!

The Greys/Blacks

This is 4 coats of the the grey glitter, and then two coats of black topped with one coat each of Winter Holly, Snow Globe, and As Gold As It Gets.

China Glaze - Some Like It Haute

China Glaze – Some Like It Haute

Some Like It Haute is an amazing polish that I bought about this time last year.  It is a medium-dark grey base with holographic glitter PACKED into it!  It goes on really gritty, so a good thick top coat is a must, but the finished look is so worth it!  One thing I will say: if you are going to hang on to this polish, make sure you have a thinner because it does dry out as it’s so thick!

Be sure to check out the video for live-views of the polishes!

What are you favourite holiday polishes?  Do you tend to wear festive nails?  Or do you just wear whatever you want to?

NOTD: Blue Christmas <3

Hey Beauties!

Here is a post on my first Christmas nails of the season!  I posted a photo on instagram that you would have seen if you follow me there.  I wore these last week, and they lasted the entire week without a single chip (until I wanted to change them).  This was a total experiment, and I’m really happy with the way they turned out! =D

Here is the finished product!

My Right Hand!

My Right Hand!
Snowman and Snowflakes are from QA19 that I bought on eBay!

My Left Hand!

My Left Hand!
Large Snowflake is from Konad m59
Small Snowflake is from QA19 that I bought off eBay.

The base colour is a beautiful new blue polish that I picked up from Essie: “Aruba Blue”.  I had been eyeing this polish for such a long time, and finally thought it would be just a perfect colour to wear for the holidays, so I got it!  I am SO happy with it.  It is the perfect shimmery blue =)

The “snow” I did with Sally Hansen’s “Disco Ball”.  It is a clear base with tiny holographic glitter particles in it.  I tried to do a gradient effect to make it look kind of like the snow was falling and settling on the tips of my nails =)  It was my first attempt at a gradient of any kind on my nails, and I love it!

The stamping is done with Konad special polish in white pearl.  I bought the Salon Express stamping kit from the “as seen on tv” section in Walmart when it went on sale because I wanted to try stamping out so badly this year!  The kit came with a stamper, scraper, plate holder and 5 image plates (for $9.99!).  I have a few Konad plates and a few cheaper ones that I bought on eBay.  Honestly, I think you can totally get away with cheaper products for the stamper and scraper and plates and such.  But I 100% recommend using polish that is specifically made for stamping.  My first attempt was around Halloween, and I just used a regular black polish.  I got so frustrated!  I finally got a decent looking stamp, but it took me ages and I was a bit discouraged.  I decided to invest in the special polish, and WOW.  The difference was unbelievable!  Honestly these turned out perfectly on the first try.  So amazing.

I used Orly’s “Won’t Chip” top coat.

I hope you enjoyed this post!  Have you done any holiday nails yet this year?  Send me photos!

Let me know if you want to see a post about how I use my stamping kit!  Keep your eyes peeled for a Favourite Holiday Polishes post coming soon =)

Fall and Winter Nail Polish for 2012

Hey Beauties!

Here are my top picks for fall/winter 2012 for nail polish!  You can see my favourite Holiday polishes for 2012 here =)

The colour-wheel!

L–>R: Butter London – British Racing Green, China Glaze – Harvest Moon, Essie – Wrapped in Rubies, Essie – Buy Me A Cameo

British Racing Green: A gorgeous hunter green creme polish, one of my overall favourites!

Harvest Moon: A beautiful shimmery bronze/copper with a metallic finish.

Wrapped in Rubies: One of the most unique colours in my collection.  A burnished red with copper shimmer, stunning!

Buy Me  A Cameo: My favourite neutral polish.  A warm shimmery champagne colour, perfect with a french manicure.

L–>R: OPI – Yoga-ta Get This Blue, Orly – Bus Stop Crimson, OPI – Vampsterdam

Yoga-ta Get This Blue: Deep royal blue with blue shimmer running through it, but not so dark it looks almost black.

Bus Stop Crimson: Deep crimson creme.  This one lives on my toes all fall and winter!

Vampsterdam: One of my all-time favourites.  A very deep burgundy-purple, with the slightest hint of shimmer, my ideal fall polish!

L–>R: Orly – Liquid Vinyl, Butter London – Knackered, China Glaze – Smoke and Ashes, China Glaze – Hook and Line

Liquid Vinyl: A pure black creme, an essential for any polish collection.

Knackered: Such a unique and gorgeous polish!  Truly makes the “galaxy nail” effect when layered over black.

Smoke and Ashes: Black polish with blue/green duochrome fine glitter running through it.  The duochrome doesn’t show up the same on the nail as in the bottle though =(.

Hook and Line: A great cool-toned neutral for winter.  It gives your nails a sort of icy effect without wearing white polish.  This is what I would transition Buy Me A Cameo into.

Hope you enjoyed this post, and be sure to check out the video for more details!

What are your favourite polishes for fall/winter?  Are you like me and prefer to wear dark, saturated nail colours?
